Are You Having Side Effects from the HPV Vaccine?

In early September of 2011, the California Senate passed a bill that allows minors to get the Gardasil vaccine without parental consent. This is concerning. Do young teens really understand what physicians are telling them and do they understand the risk of side effects when the doctor explains them? For that matter, do parents understand the benefits and risks of the vaccine? What can be done if your child gets the vaccine and experienced side effects?

First of all, it is our responsibility as parents to explain the benefits and risks of the vaccine with our children and make it clear to them whether or not we think it is wise for them to go forward with the vaccine. Some of the concerns a parent should review with their children and also for themselves are

1. The makers of Gardasil (Merck) require a series of three shots. All shots need to be completed within 6 months of the first shot for full benefits[i].

2. As of November 2014, there have been 28,678 reports of adverse events following immunizing with Gardasil This is an 18% increase in the reporting of adverse effects since 2012! [ii] Side effects include: fainting (which according to the CDC can cause serious injuries, including head injuries), pain and swelling at the injection site, headache, nausea, fever, sleep problems, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, tooth pain, joint and muscle pain. In addition, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been reported after vaccination with Gardasil and blood clots have been reported in women[iii].

3. According to the CDC, 96 deaths attributed to Gardasil have been reported in the US.

4. Gardasil increases the risk of cancer in people who have been infected with the HPV virus. Studies show this risk to be as high as 45%[iv].

5. In the September 2008, FDA Closing Statement on Gardasil it was noted that 73.3% of girls in the clinical trials developed “new medical conditions” post vaccination.  17 girls died during the clinical trials[v]

6. IThe Gardasil vaccine can be given at the same time as other shots, however over 40 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome (an autoimmune disorder) have been reported in girls who received Gardasil with a meningitis vaccine[vi].

7. Lucija Tomljenovic, Ph.D., University of British Columbia has this to say, “The incidence of cervical cancer has dropped substantially since implementation of regular Pap screening procedures. Currently, in the US, the death rate from cervical cancer (2.4/100,000 women) is lower than the rate of reported serious adverse events, including death, from Gardasil (3.34/100,000 doses distributed).”[vii]

8. December 16, 2013,  Merck that implemented a voluntary recall of one lot (lot J007354) of Gardasil® [Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent (types 6, 11, 16, and 18) Vaccine, Recombinant], due to the potential for a small number of vials to contain glass particles as a result of breakage during the manufacturing process.  These vials were distributed between August 20, 2013, and October 9, 2013.

9.  Independent laboratory testing indicates that 100% of the Gardasil vaccines tested were contaminated with HPV DNA contamination.  One victim has the recombinant DNA in her blood two years after receiving the vaccine. [viii]

Another thing to consider is sensitivities to ingredients in the vaccine. According to Rxlist.com, Gardasil contains approximately 225 mcg of aluminum (as Amorphous Aluminum Hydroxyphosphate Sulfate adjuvant), 9.56 mg of sodium chloride, 0.78 mg of L-histidine, 50 mcg of polysorbate 80, 35 mcg of sodium borate, < 7 mcg yeast protein/dose, and water for injection.

There have been many studies and news segments questioning the safety of Gardasil. For further information, please watch the short video: One More Girl made by two brothers who began researching the side effects of the Gardasil vaccine after their sister suffered a seizure shortly after receiving the shot. In addition, The Texas Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and others have also recommended against a mandate of the Gardasil vaccination[ix]. One common reason for their hesitation is the fact that the drug only went through three and a half years of testing.

Dr. Sin Hang Lee, a pathologist on staff at Milford hospital in Connecticut was asked in front of a coroner's inquest to report findings on Jasmine Renata, a young teen in New Zealand who died after receiving her three rounds of Gardasil vaccines.  He stated  “The finding of these foreign DNA fragments in the post-mortem samples six months after vaccination indicates that some of the residual DNA fragments from the viral gene or plasmid injected with Gardasil^® have been protected from degradation in the form of DNA-aluminum complexes in the macrophages; or via integration into the human genome. Undegraded viral and plasmid DNA fragments are known to activate macrophages, causing them to release tumor necrosis factor, a myocardial depressant which can induce lethal shock in animals and humans.”
